My work explores the boundary between the material and the metaphysical. In the series Untethered Forms, creation is an act of excavation. I begin by building up multiple layers on canvas, creating a "body" of material that I then systematically dismantle. This subtractive ritual—the digging, the cutting, the acceptance of mistakes—is a search for the soul of the figure. I am not interested in additive representation; I am looking to pull a presence out of the void. Because people stand vertically, most of these works are rendered on vertical supports, demanding a one-on-one engagement, to meet the viewer eye-to-eye in a shared, visceral space.
